World Week of Proper Use of Antibiotics
Every year in November, the World Week of Proper Use of Antibiotics is held

In 2015, WHO initiated the annual World Antibiotic Awareness Week in mid-November. Since the discovery of antibiotics, these drugs have become one of the most powerful tools in the arsenal of modern medicine. However, too frequent use of antibiotics in medicine and their misuse have contributed to the emergence and spread of resistance to such drugs, when microorganisms, for example, bacteria, develop immunity to the drugs used against them.

WHO has named the problem of antimicrobial resistance as one of the 10 global threats facing humanity to public health. And in 2021, from November 18 to 24, the slogan of the event initiated by WHO was the call - "Increase awareness, reduce resistance", as one of the main tasks is to preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics and raise awareness of people around the world about their competent use.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the problem. People mistakenly believe that antibiotics will help cure or protect against COVID-19, and buy them without proper consultation or prescription. That is why it is so important to focus efforts on preventing the coronavirus pandemic from exacerbating the ongoing antibiotic resistance crisis. The abuse of antibiotics can jeopardize the treatment of patients, especially those in need of these drugs.

Remember that:
антибиоти antibiotics should be taken only as prescribed by a doctor – do not use them uncontrollably;
it is recommended to record information about taking antibiotics (which, when and in what doses), this will be useful in the future when choosing drugs;
 it is necessary to observe the time and frequency of admission (if three times a day, it means after 8 hours, twice a day - after 12);
 the continuity of the course of treatment is of decisive importance;
 you cannot adjust the dosage yourself;
Remember, antibiotics do not treat viral infections like colds and flu;
 don't share your antibiotics to help another;
Do not ignore routine vaccination.

Keep an eye on your health, follow the doctor's recommendations and be healthy!

Sincerely, Almaty City Hospital No. 1
