The date of the holiday was chosen based on one of the outstanding inventions in dentistry. It was on this day, in 1790, that John Greenwood created the first dental drill - to the delight and relief of dentists and their patients. And even though she was very far from modern devices, the date of her birth, March 6, became the International Day of the Dentist.
